Meals in the college
Meal Times
| Breakfast | Mon-Fri | 8:00am – 9:00 am |
| Lunch | Mon-Fri and Sun | 12:30pm – 1:30pm |
| Brunch | Only on Sat | 11:00am – 12:30pm |
| Dinner | Mon- Fri | 6:30pm – 7:45 pm |
A cooked breakfast is served on Wednesday mornings and at Saturday Brunch. Â On other mornings, fresh pastries, cereal and orange juice is served.
Dress for the daily meals is informal and relaxed (just don’t talk on a mobile phone during the meal) Present your University Card to the staff at each meal and they will deduct the cost of the meal from your remaining balance. If you have any concern regarding meals in the college, feel free to contact the Kitchen Manager or the CR secretary, who represents the eddies’ interest to the Catering Committee that deals with meals.
In addition, do note that a tea trolley is served by the kitchen in the CR at 1100 and 1500 every weekday and 1100 on weekends. Assortment of biscuits, tea, coffee and sometimes hot chocolate are served. It has almost become a tradition in St Edmunds for students and fellows to relax and have some stimulating conversations during the tea breaks.
Formal Hall
In St Edmund’s, Formal Hall is held on most Friday evenings in the dining hall. There are two different types of formal dinners: Formal Halls and Guest Nights.
Lounge suits and academic gown must be worn by Eddies. Both start with drinks in the CR
at 7pm followed by dinner at 7:30pm. Guest Nights are more formal, with more courses served.
You must sign up on the college website well in advance (2-3 weeks!) to attend the formal dinners in St Ed’s, due to the small capacity (110 persons) of our dining hall. The website is http://www.st-edmunds.cam.ac.uk/dbs/. For the inaugural dinners, you must sign up by responding to an e-mail that will be sent to your Cambridge account.
